Forcer Protocol has helped locate more than 450 missing veterans

Greater Manchester Police says the Forcer Protocol has helped officers locate more than 450 missing military veterans since it was piloted by the force in November 2023.
The Forcer Protocol is a police safeguarding tool for veterans, reservists and serving personnel who may go missing. It allows key information to be registered in advance, including details that may help police understand risk, health needs, triggers, trusted contacts and places the person may go.
The information is stored securely and is only accessed by police if the person is reported missing or there are concerns for their welfare. Veterans can register themselves, and family members or carers can help register details with consent.
Greater Manchester Police says 35% of the veterans located through the initiative have gone on to engage with specialist support services.
The protocol is now being rolled out nationally by the National Police Chiefs’ Council. So far, 25 police forces have adopted the platform, with a further eight due to go live this summer.
