The government has announced the opening of the first VALOUR-recognised centre in Kent, marking the start of the public rollout of the new UK-wide veteran support system.
The centre, based at Royal British Veterans Enterprises in Aylesford, is one of the first organisations to receive funding through VALOUR. The programme is intended to make it easier for veterans and their families to access local support across areas such as health, housing, employment and welfare.
Alongside the centre opening, VALOUR now has a public-facing campaign site which helps veterans find support by nation and through an interactive map of VALOUR-recognised centres and outreach hubs.
Veterans and families can use VALOUR in three main ways:
Online, through the VALOUR support pages and MOD Veterans Services referral route.
In person, through a VALOUR-recognised centre or outreach hub.
By phone or email, through the VALOUR contact route.
The VALOUR site separates support across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Each national page includes links to services and support routes covering health and wellbeing, housing, finance, employment, education, legal and justice support, family support, records and medals.
The government has said VALOUR is designed to bring together national oversight, regional coordination and local delivery. Field officers will work across regions to strengthen links between local partners, councils, charities and public services.
A second round of funding is expected to be allocated over the coming months, with more VALOUR-recognised centres due to join the system as the programme expands.
VALOUR Digital Services are also being developed, with user research now open to veterans and families who want to help shape how online support may work in future.
For veterans and families, the most practical development is that VALOUR now has a visible public route into support. The campaign site gives users a way to find national support pages, local recognised centres, outreach hubs and contact options in one place.
You can find more information by visiting our UK Healthcare Services page and Find Support Directory, which include VALOUR links and recognised centres where relevant.
